Behind the Scenes w/ ZBB at GRAMMYs

The excitement (and anxiety) was high from the moment I stepped foot in LA - and it only got better as the days went on.

From rehearsals, to walking the 400 ft. red carpet, to winning Best New Artist, to a mad dash through the media room, to celebrating with family and friends, Darren Doane (director of ZBB's "Toes" and "Highway 20 Ride" videos) was there with his camcorder capturing every moment.

They've already thanked us in front of 26 Million viewers so here's my chance to hit them back:

Congratulations to the Zac Brown Band for all their hard work and here's to another exciting year in 2010.

Everybody In The House, Sing Along

Quick update to Chris's post about the Hennessy Artistry Series: a video clip of Common, The Roots and Q-Tip blending Bonita.

I personally also loved hearing Caron Wheeler of Soul II Soul with The Roots. "Back To Life" has always been a song I associate with good times, and Wednesday night at Terminal 5 sure was one.

You see this cat Shaft is a bad mother...

(Shut your mouth.)

That would be Shaft, John Shaft. Sadly, the man who penned the film's immortal theme, Isaac Hayes, has died, at 65. The Times obituary by Ben Sisario may forever redefine the parenthetical use of "furthermore."

Hayes' first recording session was with Otis Redding. With his partner David Porter, he helped create the distinctive sound of Stax Records, which released some of my favorite music of all time.

I produced a soul music project once that wound up being mostly Stax artists, and when I drove cross-country on my way back from LA to NYC, planned my route so I could visit the Stax Museum of American Soul Music on McLemore Avenue in Memphis , one of the better museums anywhere, which contains, among other exhibits, Hayes'1972 peacock blue, gold-trimmed two-door Eldorado Cadillac.

The next time you use a manual toothbrush, try doing it in rhythm to the opening of this tune and see if your recommended two minutes don't go a lot faster:

Ferdinand Ries & The Roller Coaster

This video promotion for the Zurich Chamber Orchestra is too cool not to share.

You've probably never thought that classical music and amusement park rides would go together like peas and carrots, but check out the elegant, captivating, and insanely fun 1-minute video below and become a believer.
